Watched W1A (Season 2, Episodes 1-4) from BBC | Netflix
Ian Fletcher, formerly the Head of the Olympic Deliverance Commission, has taken up the position of Head of Values at the BBC.
Starring: Hugh Bonneville, Monica Dolan, Jessica Hynes
Continuing on to finish off the second season. Some of the characters are beginning to feel weary to me, but they’re also such over-the-top caricatures that this would have been better to watch in smaller doses rather than two seasons at a time.

Quirky characters and biting satire. Sadly I’m probably missing a lot of the “in” jokes, though I did pick up what looked like Alan Yentob arm wrestling Salman Rushdie in a short cameo appearance. A lot of the comedy revolves around the premise of people who are paid professionally to be communicators are some of the absolute worst communicators on the planet.

📺 Tiny Shoulders, Rethinking Barbie (2018) | Hulu

Watched Tiny Shoulders, Rethinking Barbie (2018) from Hulu
Directed by Andrea Blaugrund Nevins. With Roxane Gay, Peggy Orenstein, Gloria Steinem. Barbie, the most popular doll ever created is a fashion icon and a target for feminists. This telling documentary features new footage, access to Barbie's biggest reinvention, and examines over 60 years of women through the lens of an 11.5 inch plastic doll.
The best part may have been the near-coda at the end that indicated what happened to the creator of Barbie.

📺 Fyre Fraud (2019) | Hulu

Watched Fyre Fraud (2019) from Hulu
Directed by Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason. With Bella Hadid, Ja Rule, Billy McFarland, Cameron Davison. Concert promoters and rapper Ja Rule advertise a high-end festival experience that fails spectacularly when they don't plan for the infrastructure to support the venue, artists and guests.
When the two competing documentaries came out, I don’t think I ever really heard a reason why there were two other than the fact that the story was so over-the-top, blatant, and salacious. I’m glad I saw this one first as it indicates that the other documentary was made by Jerry Media, an entity that was involved in promoting and profiting from the Fyre Festival. Of course I want to dig into the background of the producers of this one now too to see what their ties may be. Always vet your sources, even for documentaries that present themselves as detached from the story.

This does a great job of showing cultural excess. At least the founder was put into jail before he had a chance to run for president…

A reasonably well-told story, but the juxtaposition of images was often too forced to intimate activity that wasn’t really happening.
