I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “opens empty”, but perhaps you mean that the Post Kinds meta box isn’t showing up? This is a known bug and a temporary manual work around is mentioned in the issues repo here: https://github.com/dshanske/indieweb-post-kinds/issues/168#issuecomment-386422074
