Likely for your extant infrastructure, try microblog, RSS, or an IndieWeb social reader for subscriptions and add the ActivityPub plugin for your #WordPress site for publishing.

It’s been a long time since I looked at or studied instances, their particular rules, and mores, so some research and input from others’ experiences may be worthwhile.
I’ve been generally happy with my mastodon.social presence.
