Followed Martin Fowler

I am Martin Fowler: an author, speaker… essentially a loud-mouthed pundit on the topic of software development, primarily for Enterprise Applications. I work for ThoughtWorks, a software delivery company, where I have the exceedingly inappropriate title of "Chief Scientist". I have written half-a-dozen books on software development, including Refactoring, and Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture. I write for and edit the website martinfowler.com.

My main interest is to understand how to design software systems, to maximize how much value development teams can deliver. In doing this I've looked to understand the patterns of good software architecture, and also the processes that support software design. I've become a big fan of agile approaches and the resulting focus on evolutionary software architecture. I don't come up with original ideas, but do a pretty good job of recognizing and packaging the ideas of others, or as Brian Foote describes me: "an intellectual jackal with good taste in carrion".

Interesting writing in general. Considers his site a bliki, which is a portmanteau word that combines blog and wiki.

I’m a graphic designer doing environmental outreach in the public sector, and a fiction writer and photographer in my personal time. I live in the Seattle area, having moved to Washington state in 2008. I use this blog to explore different productivity techniques, consider my philosophy about creative work, search for balance between my creative work and the rest of my life, serve as an accountability tool and record of what work I do, and give back to the creative community.

Followed Desirée García (Miscelanea)

Desirée GarcíaDesirée García is a designer, editor, speaker, and tenacious gardener living in Austin, Texas. She designs for Automattic by day and edits for A List Apart at night. Her superpower is assembling IKEA furniture.

Dezzie is passionate about designing things that enable people to get on with their work and their lives. The design problems that no one wants to solve but have to get done. Life is too short for technology to be unusable or addictive.

Her work has spanned a quirky range of design problems, from financial transparency in the federal government, to some of the first platforms for enabling people to create with AI. She’s spoken at conferences like Front Conf, O’Reilly Design, and podcasts like The Hustle.

When she is working, Dezzie listens to house music. When she is not, you will find her listening to her daughters, her stomach, the dirt, or the mat.

I am a freelance writer, researcher and speaker, and the author of Work Smarter with Social Media: A Guide to Managing Evernote, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Your Email (Harvard Business Review Press, 2015). My work helps people and organizations cope with the transition to a digital world by tackling everything from the business and social impact of big-picture trends like the emergence of the collaborative economy, to the nitty-gritty of making productive use of digital tools.

I am a regular contributor to The Wall Street JournalThe Harvard Business Review and The Christian Science Monitor’s Passcode, and the digital columnist for JSTOR Daily.  My writing on technology issues has appeared in media outlets like Macworld, Oprah.com, The Atlantic.com, The Toronto StarCBC RadioBusiness 2.0, and the Chronicle of Higher Education. I am a frequent commentator on tech stories, appearing regularly in broadcast and print to talk about the business of tech, the latest digital scandals or the drama of managing kids’ screen time.

My perspective on the tech world is informed by my experience as a web strategist and by my research background. I am the former Vice President of Social Media at Vision Critical, a customer intelligence software provider, where I worked with the company’s F1000 customers to develop innovative approaches to social media research and to deliver groundbreaking reports like Sharing is the New Buying and What Social Media Analytics Can’t Tell You About Your Customers. Before joining Vision Critical, I was the Director of the Social + Interactive Media Centre at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where I worked on applied research challenges with BC-based companies.

As the founder and principal with Social Signal, one of the world’s first social media agencies, I have shaped the online strategy for a wide range of online community projects, including TyzeChange Everything and NetSquared. This work builds on my consulting, research and writing on online community and civic participation by harnessing the latest generation of web tools — tools like blogging, Facebook, Twitter, and RSS — to the challenge of community engagement.

This blog records the thoughts, ideas, and daydreams of a software and web developer, sometime blogger, and somewhat secret internet superhero called Jonathan (me).

While not bashing my head against the desk repeatedly at work, or traveling around Europe pretending to be clever, I write idiotic blog posts, and attempt to survive living in a house with four women, two cats, a hamster, and a number of fish.

I live in deepest, darkest England – land of good manners, punctuation, starched shirts, and silent indignation. I grew up near Oxford, and have ended up living in the countryside just outside London.

I like pizza (or anything easy to cook, really), wine, chocolate biscuits, tea, coffee, movies, music, and cycling. I am as as colour-blind as a hedgehog in a bag, but can draw a mean doodle. I listen to random music on Spotify, watch streaming TV shows on the internet, and wish I had more time and/or money to pursue a colossally nerdy interest in comic book artwork.

I take lots of photos – none of which are posted here. Many of them can be found at Instagram.

If you would like somebody to jump down the internet rabbit hole with, click the follow button, or send me a message – I love meeting new people, and love writing messages instead of getting on with what I should be doing.
