I want to maintain a connection with you….but I have a sincere question…would complex analysis have an application in studying my brain? My basic cognition is changing and may be redeveloping in some elemental way. I detect a small change…
This particular complex analysis is a branch of abstract math that includes the underpinnings of calculus. While it might be applied somehow to the area you’re talking about, I don’t know offhand of any particular direct applications.
There is an area of study called complexity that grew out of research at the Santa Fe Institute which I occasionally write about which does apply to the study of the brain and cognition as well as to areas of biology and even economics. Melanie Mitchell has a great book called Complexity Theory: A Guided Tour which you might find interesting and which doesn’t get too technical.
Also very interesting and somewhat applicable to your question are two podcasts from Invisibilia I listened to earlier this week. One is about expectations and the other about thought.
The brain is a relatively elastic organ, so almost anything could be possible. I’m curious how you think you’re changing? Can you put your finger on what you think may be happening?
