The next book for the Dan Allosso Book Club is Roland Allen‘s The Notebook: A History of Thinking on Paper (United Kingdom: Profile Books, 2023).
For those interested in intellectual history, here’s a chance to join a long standing book club full of inveterate note takers/zettelkasten-ers, educators, and lifelong learners. Those interested in the topic are encouraged to join us.
To join, reach out to Dan Allosso for access to the book club’s shared Obsidian Vault and/or ping me for the Zoom link for the discussions to be held on Saturday mornings at 8:00 – 10:00 AM Pacific over the coming month.
I don’t know if I can join, but thanks for the book recommendation!
@chrisaldrich I think @vanderwal might find this one fun, if not the book club at least the book
@artlung @chrisaldrich Joe, thanks. I picked up the book when it came out. I haven’t followed Allosso’s bookclub in a while, but will for this one.
Gonna look into it. Thanks for sharing, Chris Christopher Christianson III.
This book is really cool <3 I read it a couple of months ago, because it was recommended to me by a friend, and I really enjoyed it ! I’m happy you get to discover it together ^^
@chrisaldrich Thank you for sharing the notification. I went to Dan’s Substack and signed up, but found no mention fo the book club, nor the Roland Allen book.
Dan posts videos of past book club conversations, but doesn’t often post about next books as we’ve got a pre-existing steady group. You only need to ping him if you want access to the shared obsidian vault. I’ll send the zoom link via Mastodon DM.
Looks like a great book. I probably won’t be able to join but it looks like a book that I will enjoy.
I highly recommend this book, even if you can’t make it to the book club. It was super exciting when it arrived in the mail. I’d love to take part but sadly it will be 1am where I live. Maybe I should start an Antipodean/Far East ~UTC+10 book club, where we could keep reasonable hours?
Great book. I read it several months ago.
I found a good podcast interview with the author: Why keeping a notebook can change your life.
A lovely, well-balanced cocktail as I finish up this week’s reading and notes on The Notebook for this week’s book club meeting tomorrow morning. (The lemon twist really makes this.)
I hope I’m not too late! Can you send me the zoom link for this morning’s discussion?
Mary! I’m sorry I’m far too late for this. We’re taking a week off and won’t have a meeting for 8/2, but will meet next on 8/9 to discuss chapters 15-21. I’ll email you the zoom link for the next meeting.
