Read Can This Even Be Called Music? by Kicks Condor (Kicks Condor)
When I first discovered this link, it seemed that the music became more and more unlistenable as I scrolled down the page. Now that I’ve had time to listen to CTEBCM further, there is actually quite a bit of tame music here that is just strangely genred. Such as ‘the loser’, a solo opera based on the wonderful Thomas Bernhard novel of the same name which feels reminiscent of the meandering ‘Shia LeBeouf’ storysong. Or the sometimes-metal, sometimes-harpsichord of Spine Reader’s ‘Recorded Instruments’.
Shia!
Read Building a personal knowledge base by Kirill Maltsev (kirillmaltsev.net)
I try to unload all information that has any meaning to me from my brain to external storage because I don’t like to rely on my memory nor do I trust it. In this blog post, I’m going to describe my current approach of working with a personal knowledge base.
He’s got a solid listing of tools here, many I’ve either tried or am currently using myself. Looks like he hasn’t come across Roam yet which I like for it’s ability to change tags across many linked pages. I wish other tools had that one killer feature.
Read Fraidycat, a most unusual feedreader by Jason McIntoshJason McIntosh (Fogknife)
Fraidycat lets you "follow at a distance" blogs, social media accounts, and other web sources. I find it much more attention-respectful than a typical feedreader.
Fraidycat is one of my favorite tools as well. I particularly like it for it’s time-related functionality in comparison to other feed readers which don’t have this kind of categorization/sorting. Reminds me a bit of the sort of reader that Ton Zijlstra was always looking for.
Read a thread by Venkatesh RaoVenkatesh Rao (Twitter)
My lifestyle could reasonably be called stochastic semi-retirement, trading money for time in a very unpredictable way to make room for doing things for which there is absolutely no economic demand. That, or it’s a very poorly tuned freemium hustle.
A short, but useful essay (in the guise of a Tweetstorm) about “solving for life”.

While this is focused on how one could/should help others, it can easily be applied to one’s own life. This is a fantastic reframing for how we should treat others not only with compassion, but with some additional pragmatism.

Watched Surrender (Official Video) by Matisyahu from YouTube

“Surrender” appears on Matisyahu’s new album AKEDA, available everywhere now.

Lyrics:
Go figure pull the trigger while I simmer in the sun
Tell my lady I'll be with her when the summer's come and gone
You are the moon on the rise, you are my tide, you are the one
Sing the song of creation and an anthem for the young

In my next life
Could I take another turn?

Surrender
Surrender

Two eyes make the prize, live the life I know why
Dove cries, stars shine, and I fly through the night
With my sights set on the next bet, my life is not set yet
I got no regrets cause to get where I'm going

Could I take another turn?
Could I burn another day?
Could I move like a prince, slay the dragons in my way?
I'll be dancing in the wilderness 'til my dying day
I'll be dancing on the grave of the brave I have slayed

In my next life...

Surrender
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)

We run for the mountains, we will run for our lives
Say you are a nation of slaves with no sight
But I surrender my vision to your glory
It's the story of a silent sky
Ancient eyes, new baby blues, and old brown horizon
I surrender to your glory
(I surrender...)

My vision
Glory to the king of creation

Surrender
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender (my vision)
Surrender

Watched King Without A Crown (Live from Stubb's) by Matisyahu from YouTube

Matisyahu's official live performance video of 'King Without A Crown'.

Lyrics:

Zee you're all that I have and you're all that I need
Each and every day I pray to get to know you please
I want to be close to you, yes I'm so hungry
You're like water for my soul when it gets thirsty
Without you there's no me
You're the air that I breathe
Say sometimes the world is dark and I just can't see
With these, demons surround all around to bring me down to negativity
But I believe, yes I believe, I said I believe
I'll stand on my own two feet
Won't be brought down on one knee
Fight with all of my might and get these demons to flee
Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe
Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe
Out of darkness comes light, twilight unto the heights
Crown Heights burnin' up all through till twilight
Said, thank you to my God, now I finally got it right
And I'll fight with all of my heart, and all a' my soul, and all a' my might

What's this feeling?
My love will rip a hole in the ceiling
Givin' myself to you now from the essence of my being
And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing
I want Moshiach now, time it starts revealing
What's this feeling?
My love will rip a hole in the ceiling
Givin' myself to you now from the essence of my being
And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing
I want Moshiach now. ya

One of my favorite performances. I still remember the first time I saw it.
Watched Matisyahu joins coffee shop performer on "One Day". by Matisyahu from YouTube

This was rad. This kid started singing Matisyahu's "One day" and didn't know that the artist was right in front of him. Watch the reveal at the end. He still didn't believe it was him and it took a second for it all to sink in. Loved this moment. Update: the kids name is Kekoa or aka Clint Alama.

Watched One Day (Official Video) by Matisyahu from YouTube

Lyrics:

Sometimes I lay
Under the moon
And thank God I'm breathing
Then I pray
Don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know some day it'll all turn around because...

All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day

It's not about
Win or lose
'Cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood-drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging

In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you, no way (no way)"

Listened to S1 E6: What Men Talk About When They Talk About Sports (Contested, Part 6 of 6) by John Biewen from Scene on Radio

Tens of millions of Americans, most of them men, tune in to sports talk radio. Is sports talk a haven for old-school guy talk, including misogyny and gay-bashing? For the final episode in our series on sports and society, “Contested,” host John Biewen listened in.

This episode was worth having listened to twice. It was included in Biewen’s subsequent series on men.
