👓 Donald Trump Assaulted Me, But He’s Not Alone on My List of Hideous Men | The Cut
“I made a list of hideous men in my life. It includes the president — who assaulted me in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman 23 years ago.”
My last post to Facebook was almost a year ago on July 31, 2018, a day before Facebook turned off their API and prevented my website from interacting with their service. Other moral and ethical concerns with Facebook aside, I’ve got what I hope to be a useful method for people’s interactions with my Facebook account to come back to my site. This will let me better own and control my data while still interacting with people “stuck” on this problematic service.
This return post will serve as a test to see if I might return to and occasionally post there again.

Directed by Kyle Newacheck. With Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Luke Evans, Terence Stamp. A New York cop and his wife go on a European vacation to reinvigorate the spark in their marriage, but end up getting framed and on the run for the death of an elderly billionaire.
Slow first act. Not as bad as I expected it would be. Not as funny either.

📺 "Dexter" Dexter | Netflix
Directed by Michael Cuesta. With Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King. Dexter takes part in the investigation of a serial killer who drains his victims of blood. He also kills two criminals, and his romantic relationship may be going to the next level.
Dozed off on the couch early this evening. Woke up late and couldn’t sleep, so started watching some old tv for mild entertainment.

Quitting Facebook meant that I lost my connection to thousands of guinea pig owners. On Micro.blog, we have four that I know of. But I was sick of Facebook, so the tradeoff was worth it. ❧
Of course this hasn’t stopped Jean from trying to convert us all into fans one at a time. 😉

We are not filtering out topics like F1. There just are not any posts to add. For a lively community on that topic or other specialized topics, you probably need to find a forum or follow hashtags on Twitter. ❧
This is also a potential space that Webmention-based aggregation services like IndieWeb news, or the multi-topic Indieweb.xyz directory could help people aggregate content for easier discovery and community building.

Tip: One of the Discover curation guidelines is the Buddy Bench principle. If you want to find someone who shares a particular interest, write a micropost asking “Hey, are there any fans of ___ out there?” We add posts like that to Discover. ❧
Another useful tip on this front is to post a Micro Monday following recommendation aggregating a few people you know are interested in a particular topic. As an example, I posted one about a few educators and researchers I knew on micro.blog in July 2018 and it quickly blew up with lots of additional recommendations from others following me within the community.
Over time I’ve kept up with adding to it, and even within the last month that post is still helping to benefit others on the service:

When you’re logged into OwnYourSwarm there’s a dashboard page with a section entitled “Comments and Responses” with two toggles. The second toggle for “Send Webmention for system comments from Swarm” should be “on” and that should send you the coins and other fun comments that Swarm adds to your posts.
I’ve definitely get them on my site. I think David Shanske updated the Semantic Linkbacks plugin a year or more ago to pares and display them correctly, so it should be just a matter of making sure that the toggle is set to on to get them.
