In possibly the funniest thing that’s ever happened to me on the Internet (and please remember that I’ve been called a fattie by the daughter of the Uzbek dictator and crowdfunded my ticket to troll a Thomas Friedman event), the New York Times, that paper of record, has today issued a correction that’s been called “the best thing on the Internet this week.”
I know this Twitter Halloween name phenomenon has been going on for several years. This is one of the earliest examples I’ve seen. Interesting that it caused a correction in the New York Times.

Evil is real. The excitement happens when it invades our safe areas. Dean Cundey understands this well. Back in 1978, the legendary cinematographer expertly used shadows to illustrate the encroachment of evil into the otherwise idyllic small town of Haddonfield, Ill. in the original “Halloween.” The film — which revolutionized horror cinema when it introduced the sadistic Michael Myers and scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis as student Laurie Strode — celebrates its 40th anniversary on Oct. 25.

👻 ☠️ 🎃 Halloween flavored names on Twitter

Everyone I know has jumped on the Halloween bandwagon on Twitter and added one or more Halloween related emoji to their Twitter name. Jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, etc. abound. Some have even changed their names a bit to fit into the theme.

Despite the fact that Halloween is my favorite holiday, and since retailers are already jumping the gun on Christmas, I thought I’d do the same. I’m changing my Twitter name to something like:
